Sometimes, it's just the end of an era.

That was the case for five Maine restaurants in August, which closed their doors for the final time.

A longstanding pizzeria, a noodle bar, a cafe, a cocktail bar and restaurant, and a coffee shop all said goodbye to their customers, each ending their respective Pine Tree State chapters.

Luiggi's Pizzeria in Lewiston, Maine, Closed in August 2025

According to a Facebook post on August 25, Luiggi's Pizzeria confirmed that the sad rumors were true and the pizza place would be closing permanently.

The eatery said in the post that they were "truly sorry we couldn’t keep the nostalgia going the way many had hoped."

They acknowledged the many hurdles they faced after taking over the 72-year-old restaurant from its previous owners, but they wanted to focus on the positive and the memories, grateful for being a part of the decades-long legacy.

Dok Mali Noodle Bar in South Portland, Maine, Closed in August 2025

According to a Facebook post, Dok Mali Noodle Bar announced that its last day would be August 30.

The restaurant, which served a variety of noodle-based soups and dishes, had opened in July 2024.

The Portland Press Herald reported that another pan-Asian restaurant, Asian House, would be taking over the location.

Bake Maine in Portland, Maine, Closed in August 2025

According to an Instagram post, Bake Maine announced that its last day in Portland would be on August 27.

The bakery and cafe said that it was going to put full-time focus on its Wells location, noting that it was difficult trying to keep both going at the same time.

Bake Maine opened its Portland spot in 2023 and then its Wells place in May 2024.

Paper Tiger in Portland, Maine, Closed in August 2025

According to an Instagram post, Paper Tiger announced that its last day would be August 31.

The cocktail bar and restaurant, which served creative cocktails and small plate dishes, opened in 2022.

In its post, Paper Tiger shared the news "with a heavy heart and a real sense of accomplishment," but acknowledged their love for the people who came to enjoy the little Portland spot.

Whittle Bird Coffee in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Closed in August 2025

According to a Facebook post, Whittle Bird Coffee said that it would close on August 30.

The coffee shop said in a longer post on its website that while they tried "everything in our power to keep this little place alive for the community of Dover Foxcroft ... every path we tried seemed to lead to a dead end."

Whittle Bird Coffee emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses and hoped that they "touched this community in some small way, bringing a bit of joy, comfort, and connection to others."

It's never easy to say goodbye, but these five restaurants will have their legacies live on in the meals shared and the memories made.
