Forget the fact that the weather keeps playing this hot and cold, sun and rain game of cat and mouse.
The fact of the matter is winter is long gone, and we're deep into spring with summer on the horizon.
And with that comes the opening of some of Maine's best amusement parks. Let's take a look at three of them opening in May that will for sure kick-start the summer season early.
Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach
First up on the docket is Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach, which has been around since 1902.
According to the beachside amusement park's website, it has over 28 rides and attractions, as well as a 24,000 square foot arcade with over 250 games to play.
There's even a new ride called Wind Surfer that plans to open this season, if you're up for it.

Funtown in Saco
The next option for you to choose is Funtown in Saco, which first opened in the 1960s.
According to the amusement park's website, there are a variety of rides from those seeking thrills (Dragon's Descent, Excalibur Roller Coaster) to kiddie rides (Cactus Canyon, Frog Hopper).
The place even got a brand new haunted attraction that was named one of the best in the United States. You don't scare easily, do you?

York's Wild Kingdom in York
And then you've also got another choice in the zoo and amusement park that is York's Wild Kingdom, which has been around since the 1980s.
According to this southern Maine spot's website, there are a number of rides the kids can go on, an 18-hole mini golf course, and well over 50 different animals to see, from tigers to monkeys to alligators.
There's even a 5,500 square foot exhibit with a bunch of different South and Central American butterflies.
