
Here’s What’s Taking Over The Former Joann Store in Topsham, Maine
The end of an era means the start of a new one.
What was once a Joann Fabrics store in Topsham, Maine, has been transformed into The Furniture Gallery, a family-owned Maine company with a handful of locations across the state.
Looks like it’s out with the yarn and in with the sofas, beds, couches, and more.
When Does The Furniture Gallery in Topsham, Maine, Open?
The Furniture Gallery teased on Facebook in September that it was bringing its newest location to the Topsham Fair Mall before an October 8 social media post revealed it was finally open.
The furniture store noted on Facebook that its team had been working for months getting the place ready for its debut and that grand opening information will be shared soon.
This is the fourth location for the business, which also has spots in Bangor, Augusta, and Windham.
You might recognize the new location as the Topsham store is in the former Joann fabric and craft store at 49 Topsham Mall Road.
What Happened to the Joann Fabric Stores in Maine?
Unfortunately, Joann filed for bankruptcy in March 2024 and again in January 2025. According to WMTW, the company announced in February 2025 that all of its stores across the country, including the five in Maine, would be closing for good.

The fabric store had been around for over 80 years.

Thankfully, the Topsham location won't be vacant anymore.
Plus, having a Maine-based company expanding into the area feels like a win for both shoppers and the community. It’s always great to see a state business growing and finding success.
So while the chapter on Joann has closed, a brand new one has begun for The Furniture Gallery, and it's further filling up the Topsham Fair Mall.
