I used to think only Portland, Maine was getting the brunt of all the restaurant and local business closures in the last 5 years, but that's not the case.

Ever since the pandemic, closures have branched out into Freeport and surrounding towns as well. There's a few heavy hitters that humbled us real well when they permanently closed though. Here they are:

Stars and Stripes Brewery Freeport

So crazy becaue these guys had 2 locations in Freeport & Portland. The Portland location closed its' doors in February following suit with their Freeport location.

I really hate to see a good deck location go. The funny part is how Stars & Stripes shared a lot with Gritty's, and now they're both gone.

To add insult to injury, we also just lost another real good summer deck situation in Westbrook (Frog & Turtle) which feels illegal but I wish you guys luck in what's next!

Gritty's Freeport, Maine

This one took everybody by surprise. I thought the news headlines were playing a joke on all of us, but they weren't. Another good summer deck space gone too soon.

My dog Maverick would love to romp around in the grass area out back where all the outdoor seating was. We've still got the Gritty's in Portland, though so let's take care of that one.

Jameson Tavern Freeport, Maine

This one might be the biggest punch in the gut since this tavern has been creating local business for 245 years. According to WMTW, the Jameson Tavern is also considered one of the most haunted places in New England.

Well now that I know that, I've got serious FOMO. Let this be your sign to visit the bars you've "always say you should go to one time".
