This Beautiful Maine Beach With Soft White Sand Is a Hidden Gem
When the weather starts to get nice and the sun beats down its warm rays, you might start thinking of taking a beach day... and there are a great number of options in Maine.
From Old Orchard Beach to Popham to Sand Beach and more, the Pine Tree State has numerous places where you can take a cool swim or relax on the sand.
But there's one amazing hidden gem spot that should be on your radar, where you can sink your toes into soft, white sand, and it doesn't feel overly crowded.
Ferry Beach State Park in Saco, Maine
Say hello to Ferry Beach State Park in Saco, Maine, which, according to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, "offers sweeping view of miles of white sand beaches between the Saco River and Pine Point."
This Saco beach is about 30 minutes from Portland, a little over two hours from Bangor, and if you're thinking of driving over from New Hampshire, it's less than an hour from Portsmouth. So it's worth a weekend trip without an overabundance of driving to get there.
Not only are there gorgeous views of the water, made even more blue on a blue sky day, but also the miles of soft white sand. Slow motion running on the beach, anyone?
Really, it means a lot less flinching when you're walking barefoot.
Can You Bring Your Dog to Ferry Beach in Saco, Maine?
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry states that pets are prohibited on the beach or boardwalk between April 1 and September 30. However, from October 1 through March 31, they can be if they are on a leash.

At the beach, you can swim or surf, and there's even a picnic area and some nature trails if you're looking for that little something extra.
While access isn't free, it's not a huge fee to get into this amazing spot.
If anything, it's a beach that's not going to be as crowded as some of the top tourist spots during the season, so you and the family can have a little space while you enjoy the sun and water. Not a bad way to spend the day, right?
This could be your new favorite sandy sanctuary.
