Want to explore Maine but not interested in going places that are going to be overly crowded with tourists?

LoveExploring has decided to rank America's most beautiful coastal towns not swamped by out-of-staters, and two spots in Maine landed on the list.

That particular honor lands on the shoulders of Lubec and Boothbay Harbor.

When Is Tourist Season in Maine?

According to Travel + Leisure, the highest traffic months for tourists are June to August, while November to April are less crowded with out-of-staters.

This really shouldn't come as a surprise to Mainers, as tourists tend to hit up the summer months because of the ideal weather, the outdoor activities, the festivals, the seasonal food spots, and that Pine Tree State charm that is so evident.

These are all things locals already know about.

Visit Lubec in Maine

It's great to see Lubec get some recognition, especially when places like Bar Harbor, Portland, and Kennebunkport tend to often be the top contenders for "best" lists.

According to Visit Maine, this coastal gem is the easternmost town in the United States and has lighthouses, 34 outdoor sculptures, and a bunch of hiking trails.

That small-town atmosphere, historic buildings, and working waterfront make it an ideal place to check out during tourist season without feeling like you're in a jam-packed location.

You can even check out the iconic West Quoddy Headlight.

Visit Boothbay Harbor in Maine

Boothbay Harbor also landed on LoveExploring's list, coming in at No. 18, and it's certainly an underrated town.

While it's still a popular tourist location, it's nowhere near the levels of people visiting Portland and Bar Harbor.
