Skijoring Is Real, It’s Wild, and Maine Is Fully Leaning Into It
Did you ever hear about the sport where skiing, horses, and chaos exists together?
It has an actual name, called skijoring, and it’s exactly what it sounds like, according to News Center Maine.
So you take a skier, or snowboarder being pulled by a horse and a rider at full speed filled with gates, jumping, and a lot of trust.
As per the article, the Skijor Triple Crown is coming back to Maine. It’s one of those events that make you stop and say, “What is this?”
This is all beginning, January 31st at the Bangor Raceway!

Skijoring has roots way back to Norway, but the state of Maine has fully claimed this sport.

Of course we did. It’s winter, and there’s snow and horses.. So why not combine it all into one high speed, crazy, spectacle?
According to the article, the teams will race through the courses and the fastest run will win. You get penalty’s if you miss a gate or a ring, but if you wipe out?
Apparently that’s all a part of the entertainment!
One of the organizers said that this year’s snow conditions are some of the best for this, meaning jumps will be higher, the runs will be faster, and the crowd will cheer louder.
The Triple Crown will also stop in Topsham and Skowhegan, a full winter tour for all to see! It’s a family-friendly event that you won’t want to miss.
So, bundle up, grab some hand warmers, and watch a sport that could only make sense right here, in Maine!
