The REAL ID Act, was passed by Congress in 2005 and 20 years later it's finally ready to go into effect on May 7 after many delays.

One of the biggest reasons you will need a REAL ID is if you like to travel. Without a REAL ID, you may not be allowed to board a plane and travel to other countries.

This video from Secretary of State explains it better than I can, but it's not exactly going to win any Academy Awards for production.

The Star is the Key to the REAL ID

Not sure if you already have a REAL ID? The way to know by looking in the upper right corner of your driver's license or ID card. If there is a star in the middle of an image of the State of Maine, you have a REAL ID. If there's no star, you don't have a REAL ID so go get yourself one if you want to travel.

Time is running out, though, so get to your local BMV to get your REAL ID before the May 7th deadline.

By the way...Nick Sample on that license was most definitely not born in 1967.
