I went to Lord's Clam Box in Sanford, Maine, for the first time and was stunned to see this sign in their restaurant.

I was excited to meet my friends at Lord's. I had never been, but was in the mood for full belly clams. I had only heard good things about Lord's Clam Box, and they were right. But not one person mentioned the most unique part about Lord's.

Lord's Clam Box in Sanford, Maine, has a 'NO TIPPING' policy

In a world where all you see is a screen that flips around, and you are stuck deciding how much to tip, there stands Lord's. Most places' machines ask 10%, 20%, or 30%? Sometimes you just grab a bottle of water, and here you are faced with the guilt of whether or not to tip. But not at Lord's. Here, they make it very clear.

Lord's Clam Box has been around since 1969 with one mission: to keep the prices low and still serve the best seafood around. The prices ARE incredibly reasonable, but the no-tipping thing threw me off. I asked the kind woman behind the register about it. She said,

Our owner doesn't believe in tipping. He pays us a wage that compensates for no tips.

I was stunned. They've been at this for nearly 60 years and obviously are doing something very right. Maybe no tipping is the way to go. You can't say it doesn't work, because it obviously does. Oh, and to stick around for decades, you need to make remarkable food too. Lord's has that down to a science!
