Maine Braces for Hurricane Erin Expecting Dangerous Surf & Rip Currents

An extremely intense Hurricane Erin has exploded into a serious Category 4-5 storm, according to New York Post. Cat 5 hurricanes are the highest.

Winds started hitting 160 mph on Saturday morning as per the National Hurricane Center.  

This hurricane will affect Maine. We don’t be directly hit but the forecasters are telling us that there will be extremely rough surf and very dangerous rip currents.

Staying away from the water during this time would be a very good idea as the storm continues to push north from Florida. 

Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Braud says, “That is highly uncertain at the moment. It has exceeded all expectations as of this morning, So it very well could get stronger. If it does, it won’t be that much stronger. Once you’ve gotten to the Category 5 range, there’s nothing really else to achieve besides higher winds or a lower pressure, which it may do.” 

As of 9 hours ago, Meteorologist Noah Bergren's posted that the hurricane is back to a Category 4 but is expected to get stronger.

Along with the severe rip currents, beach erosion is a possibility in areas that are vulnerable like Cape Cod, Long Island, and the Outer Banks, as per the article.

The storm has grown and has become very dangerous in just 24 hours.  

Make sure that if you are going to the coast, that you stay away from the water until Hurricane Erin can no longer reach our coastlines.
