I like green crabs, said no one ever. No one wants them and to be perfectly honest, I have never even heard of them until now, but I guess they’re a thing.

Apparently, folks that do consume green crabs, have been putting them into the public compost, trash or recycling bins.

This is the most Maine thing ever to happen, according to Facebook, The Town of Freeport is firmly asking it’s residents to “knock it off!”

Enter stage left, Officer Greg Mears who heroically fished out the green crabs from the compost bins.  

You also can’t throw them in the trash or recycling bins.  

As much as we want to get rid of the green crabs, they’re are rules people.  

The town was a good sport about it, just sharing a reminder with you all and also adding a bit of humor saying, “For what it's worth there are recipes online for green crab broth, green crab bisque, green crab pizza...”

The moral of the story is that you cannot compost green crabs.

Cook them, freeze them, or give them to your enemies, just don’t compost.
