When something goes viral and causes people on social media to not look deeper into things, they will often share misinformation that spreads like wildfire.

The viral post that is spreading on social media claims that the Farmington Police Department is investigating an incident at a local retail men’s restroom. Syringes were taped to the toilet, and one person required medical care. Last we knew, they were working to identify the substance involved, and the investigation was active.
All of that is true. However, it is misunderstood.

Here's the post that was shared throughout Maine. The page originally did not have New Mexico in the title of its Facebook page. It had to be added after the fact, because Mainers were assuming this happened in Famington. However, it did not.
The first clue that this didn't happen in Maine is the 505 area code to contact the Farmington Police Department in New Mexico.
There is no evidence of any incident like this one in New Mexico occurring here in Maine.
It's sick that someone would actually do something like this and cause injury to someone. Luckily, the person's injuries were treatable.
