Walgreens, Big Lots, CVS, Advanced Auto Parts, Joann Fabrics, Family Dollar, Cracker Barrell, Applebee's, and Denny's. These are just a small sampling of the many national retail and restaurant chains that have cut back on their number of stores or gone out of business completely. The latest is the discount store Dollar General which has many locations throughout New England.

Will Any Dollar General Stores in New England Be Affected?

As of January 1, 2023, there were 68 Dollar General stores in Maine, 55 in Massachusetts, 44 in New Hampshire, 39 in Vermont, 76 in Connecticut, and 20 in Rhode Island for a total of 302 stores throughout New England. How many of those stores are on the chopping block?

Unfortunately, as of this writing, no specific store closings have been announced. I'd like to think that as far as Maine goes, the Dollar General stores here get a good amount of business, especially the ones in rural areas. That's just me guessing without anything to go on.

We'll keep you posted if and when we learn of any Dollar General stores closing in New England.
