Do You Know How Anjon’s Restaurant in Scarborough Came Up With Their Name?
Anjon's Ristorante has been a staple on Route 1 in Scarborough, across from the Scarborough Marsh, serving Italian-American cuisine. I recently learned something about how Anjon's got its name, and now that I know, it seems so obvious.
Anjon's Ristorante
John and Ann Disanto opened Anjon's in 1954, and it remains in business today, despite a brief period of closure due to increased competition and financial difficulties. They reopened in 2024, and all was right in Maine once again.
Where Did the Name Anjon's Come From?
For years, I thought Anjon's was the last name of the family that owned the restaurant. It seemed logical, as many local restaurants are named after the people who own them. I was almost right.
We had Anjon's owner in the studio for one of our many Seize The Deals, where you can typically get half-off items or restaurant meals. We currently have one running for a $50 gift certificate to Anjon's for just $25.
That's when I learned from him that Anjon's isn't the family name, but a combination of the owners' first names: John and Ann Disanto. Switch the names around and you have Anjon's. Pretty clever, huh?

Now that Anjon's is back once again and is still run by the Disantos, it's the perfect time to take a ride to Scarborough and watch the sunset over the Scarborough marsh.
Anjon's is located at 521 US Route 1 in Scarborough and is open daily from 5 pm to 9 pm for dinner. Don't want to eat it? They offer take-out and also do catering for your event.
