Maine Gym Teacher Hits 1,516 Three-Pointers, Sets Guinness Record
The Celtics could use a little help this year, sign him up.
Ryan Martin, who is the physical‑education teacher at Saco Middle School, has got game! Earlier this week, in front of a crowded gym full of students, friends and family, he attempted 1,683 three‑point shots, then proceeded to drill 1,516 of them, for a new Guinness Record.
This is even more impressive when you realize that he needed 1,372 shots made, so he didn't just break that mark, he crushed it.
To do the math on this one, Ryan managed a conversion rate near 90% at a pace of nearly one successful shot every 2.5 seconds. He eventually cramped up a bit, but the roarding crowd made him power through to take the record.

Just so you know, this is no fluke. Martin is known as "Dr. Buckets" and one look at his playing career stats will tell you why he has that nickname:
- Martin attended Maranacook High School, in Readfield, where he played for the Black Bears.
- He was a prolific scorer, amassing 1,899 career points in high school.
- One game in his senior year he scored 56 points, shooting 8 for 10, from beyond the three‑point line
- He was named Mr. Maine Basketball in 2008, recognizing him as the top senior player in the state.
- He helped Maranacook win two Maine State High School Basketball Championships
Oh, and by the way, Martin holds two other Guinness World Records:
- Most free throws made in one hour, with 2,494
- Most three‑pointers made in one hour from the NBA three‑point line: He drained 1,134 in one hour, breaking the previous record of 1,077.
