Maine’s Biggest Grocer Plans Major Store Expansion
The largest grocery store chain in Maine, with 68 locations across the state, has announced a major expansion at one of its stores.
Expansion is always a win-win—it helps businesses grow, boosts the local economy, and brings more opportunities to the community. This upcoming expansion will be no different, and folks in this Maine community are excited to see what’s next!
So, with that in mind, which grocery store chain are we talking about, and what are the details of the expansion?
Hannaford Supermarkets has announced a 12,000-square-foot expansion of its Gray store at 130 Shaker Road, set to begin in fall 2025 and finish by summer 2026.
The project will enhance the produce, meat, and seafood departments, offer more grab-and-go options, and add dairy and frozen items.
According to a press release from Hannaford, customers can also expect improvements like a larger pharmacy with a private consultation room, more self-checkout registers, and a second entrance for added convenience.

Sustainability features such as a carbon dioxide refrigeration system and electric cooking equipment will be part of the remodel.
The Town of Gray praised the expansion, noting its benefits to residents and Hannaford’s continued investment in the community.
Too long, didn’t read? The only Hannaford in Gray, Maine, is set to receive an approximately 12,000-square-foot addition by the summer of 2026.
