Is This Restaurant Chain in Maine Closing All of Its Locations?
Major rumors have been swirling around the internet recently, claiming that a popular restaurant chain with seven locations in Maine is going bankrupt.
Let’s be honest—hearing about any business closing is never fun, but with all the rumors flying around these days, it’s tough to tell what’s true and what’s not.
So, with that in mind—which popular restaurant chain has been at the center of the bankruptcy speculation lately?
According to USA Today and Newsweek, rumors that Chipotle is filing for bankruptcy and closing restaurants in 2025 are false.
The confusion seems to have begun after Spanish outlet Unión Rayo published a misleading story about the closure of Farmesa Fresh Eatery, a short-lived Chipotle spinoff.
Newsweek reported that the article originally used the Chipotle logo, which may have caused people to believe the main brand was shutting down.

Representatives from Chipotle have rebuked these claims, pointing to the company’s strong financial standing as evidence.
They noted that Chipotle currently holds zero debt, has over $2 billion in cash reserves, and is planning to open as many as 345 new locations in 2025.
Chipotle has over 3,700 restaurants nationwide—including seven right here in Maine, located in Bangor, Auburn, Portland, Saco, South Portland, Westbrook, and Windham.
And with consistently growing revenue, there is no indication, at the time of publication, that Chipotle is in any sort of trouble.
And there you have it: no, Chipotle is not closing all of its locations across the country or here in Maine. It was all a hoax.
