Some Parts of New England Will Get Very Loud Very Soon
The time has arrived to soon have to cover your ears because parts of New England, especially good old Massachusetts are about to get hit by the deafening noise of the legendary cicada.
Cicadas are coming back and they are not doing it quietly.
Like the diva bugs they are, they will be swarming soon and the invasion is imminent.
When are the cicada’s invading New England?
Starting the third week of May the cicadas will kick off in Massachusetts according to USA Today.
They will be arriving in what’s called a Brood XIV, one of the biggest and loudest broods we’ve like ever seen.
Think of it like the biggest online dating forum but instead of Tinder, it’s a million tiny bugs screaming to find a date.
Why are cicadas so loud?
"Cicadas have a special built-in instrument called a “tymbal”. Tymbals make a clicking sound, but cicadas make this sound over and over so rapidly that we hear it as a constant hum."
Check out the YouTube video below from Kare 11 on why cicada's are so loud.

If you’ve never experienced cicadas before, they’ve been hanging out like zombies underground for 17 years, just waiting for their moment to shine or, screech.
When they emerge, like the zombies they are, they make a loud noise that can reach up to 100 decibels. That’s as loud as a motorcycle revving the engine. Fun, right? While other states in New England may catch a break this year, Massachusetts is not that lucky.
So if you’re traveling to Massachusetts in late May or early June bring your earplugs. They’re harmless, though, just really annoying!
