According to a Facebook post from the Oxford County Sheriff's Office, a man is in custody following tens of thousands in property damage last Sunday. Police go on to report that at about 6:30 in the morning on Sunday they responded to Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, Maine following reports of apparent property damage.
A car had been driving on the mountain
When they arrived, they found what appeared to be deep tire tracks that had driven onto the slopes out back of the South Ridge Lodge. The driver had taken their car where it wasn't supposed to go and dug up ski slopes before crashing into ski lift scan gates.
After causing all the damage, the driver allegedly fled the scene. Officials say the estimated damage to the slopes and scanner are about $45,000. It didn't take long before deputies, with the help of Sunday River staff, had pinpointed a suspect.
