Here in New England, we really love our overstock and discount stores.  They are so popular in this part of the country that we have several discount store chains.  Yeah, we don't just have discount stores, we have entire discount store chains.

The most popular of these are Ocean State Job Lot, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Marden's, and Reny's Department Stores.

These days, Reny's is the king of discount stores here in Maine.  If you have never been to a Reny's store, you need to check one out soon.  They have everything from clothing to food items, kitchen gadgets, and toys.  A visit to Reny's is really a Maine adventure.

And they are basically EVERYWHERE!  According to the chain's website, there are currently 17 locations spread across the state, with more coming in the near future.

Just a few days ago, we learned that the chain was opening a location in Bangor.  The plan is for that location to be open sometime in 2024.

Now, we are hearing that Central Maine is going to be getting another Reny's location.

According to an article on the KJ website, John Reny confirmed on Tuesday that the chain would be adding a location in Waterville.  Reny said the new location would not be downtown.  Most likely, it would either be at the Elm Plaza or JFK Plaza.

The plan is for it to be a sizable store between 25,000 and 30,000 square feet.  Once open, it will employ about 40 people.

The hope is that the Waterville location will be open sometime in 2025.  So, yes, you are going to have to wait for it.  But, we all know that it is going to be worth the wait.  And if you don't mind driving, there are Reny's locations practically everywhere else in the state.

Currently, there are locations in Gardiner, Damariscotta, Camden, Bath, Belfast, Dexter, Ellsworth, Farmington, Madison, Pittsfield, Saco, Topsham, Portland, and several other towns.

Things That Could Go Into The Old K-Mart

The old K-Mart in Augusta has been vacant for over three years. Even though it has been used on a temporary basis, it has never found a permanent tenant. Here are some things we'd love to see go into the space.
