Do You Remember the Iconic Funland Amusement Park in Maine?

If you grew up in Maine in the 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s, there is a good chance that you spent your summers riding your bike, going to the park, hanging out at the lake (or pool), and making at least one trip to a local amusement park.

Right?

Of course, the park you visited depending on where in the state you lived.  If you lived Bangor south you probably went to either Palace Playland or Funtown.  In Central Maine you probably visited Cottle's Place.  If you lived in Western Maine, there was a good chance you went to either Story Land, Santa's Village, or Six-Gun City in New Hampshire.

What about those who lived way up north?  Well, if you lived in Aroostook County there is a good chance you made regular visits to Funland Amusement Park.

What Was Funland Amusement Park?

Located on Route 1 in Caribou, Funland was a seasonal amusement park.

It started as a golf course in 1961, but grew to be much more.  The Bosse family, who owned the park for years, added new attractions every few years.  By the time the park closed it featured go-karts, batting cages, an arcade, snack bar, a bunch of kiddie rides, and waterslides.

According to The County, the park closed about 1997 and went up for auction in 1999.
