During the pandemic, millions of Americans made the move from the nation's largest cities to much smaller communities.

Once they realized that, thanks to the country's robust communications infrastructure, they could work from practically anywhere, it just made sense.  Why pay the crazy cost of living in New York, Boston, or Los Angeles, when you could live in a much more affordable community.  All while making the same wage you had while living in the city.

While these moves happened across the country, they were especially noticable in Maine.  Between the summer of 2020 and the summer fo 2021, tens of thousands of people made the move from Boston and New York to Maine.

While this trend has slowed significantly since the end of the pandemic, people are still making the move to Maine.

It should not come as much of a surprise that many of those new Maine residents were shocked by their new home.  This was especially true for those who moved from a major city, like New York City, to one of the smaller towns in the eastern or northern part of Maine.

We've put together a list of some of the most shocking things people making the move to Maine are likely to discovery about their new home.
