Dominican National Arrested in Central Maine Drug Bust
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, a man from the Dominican Republic is facing aggravated drug trafficking charges following a month-long investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s South Central District Task Force.
Authorities say 31-year-old Jorge Luis Franco Mejia was arrested Thursday afternoon after agents executed a search warrant at a motel in Winthrop.
Investigators say the warrant stemmed from an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of fentanyl and cocaine in the area, which included several undercover drug purchases.
According to the MDEA, agents seized approximately 180 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of fentanyl, and $1,660 believed to be connected to drug sales. Officials estimate the street value of the seized drugs at roughly $20,000.
