Everything You Need to Know About the Skowhegan Fair’s Drag Race Your Neighbor Event
The first of the gatherings that would eventually become the Skowhegan State Fair took place in January of 1819.
Yes, this year the fair is celebrating 207 years!
Of course, a lot has changed over those years. The first fairs were really focused on helping early American farmers and home makers keep up to date on the technology and techniques that would make their lives easier.
These days, even though agriculture is still a big part of the fair, the event features a variety of amusements. There’s always a midway filled with rides, demolition derbies, truck pulls, live music, and lots of food.
The Skowhegan State Fair is always changing. Every few years a new event or attraction is added. In 2026, the fair is adding a unique new racing event.
Drag Your Neighbor at the Skowhegan State Fair
What is Drag Your Neighbor? Well, it is exactly what it sounds like. It is a series of races where you go head-to-head with your friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
The event will take place at 6 PM on Sunday August 16th.
Do you need a special vehicle to participate? Nope! In fact, you need a normal vehicle in order to race. It could even be your daily driver! All vehicles need to be street legal, be registered, inspected, and insured.
There are 7 different vehicle categories. These include electric cars/trucks, all-wheel-drive cars, two-wheel-drive cars, and several different truck categories.
Safety comes first with this event. That means all drivers need to wear their seatbelts and helmets. All drivers need to be at least 18 and racers cannot have passengers in their vehicles.

These races are not just for bragging rights, either. The winner of each class will snag $100 and the winner of the King of the Drag race will pickup $500.
