According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged domestic violence incident that unfolded Tuesday night in Otisfield.

According to a press release, deputies responded to a call on Route 121 after reports of a woman in significant distress.

When deputies arrived, they found that two people had been assaulted and the suspect had allegedly stolen a vehicle before crashing it nearby.

Investigators say the suspect, a 45-year-old Otisfield man who has not been publicly identified, allegedly assaulted a woman at a home with a weapon, causing a laceration to her hand and strangling her.

The woman was able to flee the home and flag down passing drivers for help. Deputies say a man stopped to assist her, but he was also assaulted by the suspect. That man was able to get back into his vehicle and drive away.

Authorities say the suspect then stole the woman’s car and crashed it a short distance away. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The male victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Maine Medical Center.

The sheriff’s office says there is no threat to the public and the investigation remains ongoing.

Because the suspect remains hospitalized, no charges have been filed yet. Deputies say they expect to charge him with multiple offenses, including domestic violence aggravated assault, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and criminal OUI.

*NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law
