Two People Injured When Their Boat Catches Fire on Moosehead Lake in Maine

According to an article on the WMTW website, two people suffered burn injuries after escaping a boat that caught fire on Moosehead Lake Tuesday afternoon.

The article explains that, according to a representative for the Greenville Fire Department, crews were called to the area near Sugar Island shortly after noon along with the Maine Warden Service for reports of a boat on fire.

Firefighters arrived to find the vessel fully engulfed in flames.  Officials said two people were on board when the fire started and both jumped into the water to escape.  Nearby boaters rescued the pair and brought them to safety.

One person was treated at the scene for burn injuries and released.

The second was transported to C.A. Dean Hospital in Greenville with what firefighters described as non-life-threatening burns.

The destroyed boat was towed to Lily Bay State Park, where firefighters fully extinguished the remaining flames before it was removed.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Maine Fire Marshal's Office were consulted as part of the response and are assisting with the investigation into the incident.

So far, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
