Three of the Absolute Best Swimming Spots in Maine
If you are fortunate enough to spend your summers in Maine, there is a good chance that you have a favorite swimming spot.
Sure, it may be a specific pool (maybe even one in your backyard), but it is more likely that your favorite spot to go for a swim is a pond or lake.
What are the best swimming spots in Maine?
We've done a deep dive (pun intended) to put together a list of the best places to go for a dip in Maine.
Frenchman's Hole - According to Downeast, this gorgeous swimming spot is located on the Bull Branch River and it features a 10-foot waterfall. You'll find the swimming spot just down the road from Sunday River ski resort. Turn off Route 2 in Newry, follow Sunday River Road 7 miles to a pair of twin logging bridges. Take an immediate right after the bridges on Bull Bridge Road and look for a parking area on the right, less than a mile in.
Houston Brook Falls - If you love waterfalls, you need to check out this cool swimming spot. According to Downeast, it is located in Bingham and features a 32-foot waterfall that creates a cool mist that is amazing on a hot day. You get there by going to Bingham and crossing the Kennebec River and turn right on Pleasant Ridge Rd. Park at the lot near the Pleasant Ridge Transfer Station and follow the trail to the left of the gate.
Sand Beach - Unlike the other swimming spots on this list, Sand Beach is located on the ocean. You'll find Sand Beach tucked away in Acadia National Park. It is pristine and surrounded by rocky cliffs. Learn more about it HERE.
