No, it's not Starburst, this year.

Halloween 2020, will it happen?  Will someone knock on your door that night?  A recent Bangor Daily News poll shows that 75% of Mainers have no plans to send their kids out trick-or-treating this year.  But, that doesn't mean that we won't indulge in our favorite Halloween candy.

How can you resist?  Walk into any Walmart, Walgreens or Hannaford and the bagged candy is stacked sky high!  Snickers, M&Ms, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Twizzlers, as far as the eye can see.

But which Halloween candy do Mainers prefer this year?  Well, according to Zippia.com, we stand alone.

Using data from Google Trends, they found each state's candy, just in time for Halloween, and surprisingly enough the #1 candy that Mainer's have a sweet tooth for is, licorice.  The sugary and chewy confection in a variety of colors apparently is the candy of choice that Mainers are seeking relief with during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There, that'll give you something to chew on.

A little odd, but hey, we're Mainers and we're certainly unique. Can anyone say, Moxie?

Although, not as odd as New Hampshire - circus peanuts?  Really?

Looking across the Zippia.com map, there is little doubt that Starburst rules the country followed up by most things chocolate. But apparently if you'd like to impress your family and co-workers, and maybe even a few young ghouls and goblins that may have the courage to knock on your door this Halloween night, you better be stocked up with licorice.

Or else, it's toilet paper in the trees for you.
