After over a month of gas prices rising, finally some good news as the national price for a gallon of gas has dropped. And the news is good in Maine, too.

According to the price monitoring site Gas Buddy, the average price for a gallon of gas in Maine this week is $2.371, which is down 2.5 cents from last weeks average price of $2.396.

This weeks national average for a gallon of gas is $2.364, which is down over five cents from last weeks average price of $2.417.

We searched locally for the lowest gas prices in Central Maine.

In Augusta, the lowest prices we could find were at six different stations, all reporting gas at $2.29 a gallon. They are J&S Oil 132 Mount Vernon Ave,  the CITGO 146 Civic Center Dr, the Kenoco 363 Western Ave, The CITGO 205 Western Ave, the Shell 183 Capitol St/Ganneston Dr and the CITGO 362 Riverside Dr.

In Waterville, the cheapest place we could find for gas was the CITGO 364 Main StWaterville Commons Dr, which reported gas at $2.29 a gallon.
