We constantly hear politicians talking about how the desperately want to help America's middle-class. Nice sentiment, right? But how do you even know if you're in that group of people?

It's pretty easy to tell if you're rich and pretty easy to tell if you're broke. But HOW do you know if you qualify to be labeled as a middle-classer?

Turns out that the break down of income brackets is by state. So what qualifies you or your household in North Dakota may not qualify you in Michigan. You know which state had the highest middle-class income range? Washington state. I know, I was shocked, too.

Let's start by taking a look at some stats. In Maine, the median household income is $53,079 a year. That means if there are two full-time wage earners in the home, they're each earning about $26,539.50 a year, BEFORE taxes. Now, here's what you as an individual need to make in Maine to be considered 'middle-class'. The Maine middle-class range for an individual is $35,560 - $106,160 a year. If you, as an individual, are anywhere within that range, congrats, you are a middle-class American.
