According to the Knox Village Soup, Mainers will soon be able to choose the cable channels they subscribe to.

On Tuesday (May 28), the Maine House approved LD 832 with a 91-45 vote.  On Wednesday (May 29), the Senate passed it 21-14.

The bill was sponsored by Friendship Independent Rep.Jeffrey Evangelos and calls for cable companies to allow customers to select individual channels.  According to Evangelos, he decided to submit the bill after hearing from elderly voters (on fixed incomes) that they couldn't afford fair basic channels (like NESN) because the packages that had those channels cost too much.

Additionally, because so many people have been "cutting the cord", he feels that cable companies would benefit from being able to sell channels a la carte.

The next step for LD 832 is the Governor Mills signature.
