Bill to Let Bars Open Early on Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day
Mainers wanting to get their St. Patrick’s Day started early this year just might be able to do that, even on a Sunday. A bill has been introduced to add a few hours to the time people can buy a drink on Sunday March 17th. When Sunday and St. Patrick’s Day are the same day, there is a little ‘issue.’
Maine law prohibits the sale of liquor on Sunday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. This new bill says bars and restaurants would be allowed to serve alcohol starting at 6 a.m. when St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, falls on a Sunday, as it does this year. The sponsor of the bill said bars stand to lose a lot of money if they can't open early that day.
