Due to problems with contamination, the city is considering removing the recycling bins at the Augusta City Center, and the Police Station. They are set to vote on the removal this coming Thursday December 20. City officials said they’ve tried having those bins hauled more frequently but the problem continued.

The biggest problem according to Centralmaine.com is people are depositing non recyclable items into the bins or leaving their discarded items around the containers when they’re full. Without these 2 locations, you could find bins at the Hatch Hill landfill and the John Charest Public Works Facility, off North Street. These remaining locations are monitored by city workers and thus haven’t had nearly the amount of contamination or other problems as the two proposed for elimination.
