Woman Who Drowned In Kennebec River Identified
Officials have released the identification of the woman who drowned in the Kennebec River in Norridgewock yesterday (June 30).
According to a story on centralmaine.com, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife issued a press release on Friday (July 1) identifying the woman as Barbara York, 53, of Norrdigewock.
The story said York was riding in a motorboat along with Jeffery Smith, 50, also of Norridgewock, when both fell into the river. According to the story, neither person was wearing a life jacket when they went into the river, but officials said there there were life jackets in the boat. The release said that Smith unsuccessfully tried to perform lefe-saving measures on York, but was unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene where her body was found near Oosoola Park.
The incident remains under investigation.
