Today (Nov 3 ) is the deadline for Mainers to request an absentee ballot and to cast that ballot in person.

The Nov. 3 deadline is aimed at allowing clerks across the state to avoid a last-minute flood of ballots. As of Monday, nearly 208,600 absentee ballots had been issued statewide, and more than 150,000 of them already had been returned.

Any ballots can be returned to the clerk between now and Election Day. But in-person voting ends Thursday.

People who have a last-minute emergency like hospitalization can still vote via absentee ballot after Thursday, but they must attest under oath. And there's no deadline for registering to vote. People can register on Election Day. —LEWISTON, Maine (AP)
