The State Fire Marshal’s Office has arrested two men and a teenage girl from Madison on arson charges stemming from a fire that destroyed a house in Anson last week.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, fire Investigators said the fire was allegedly set to cover up a burglary at the home in which a number of items were taken. Many of those stolen items have now been recovered, McCausland said. The fire was on Feb. 24 at a house on Pease Hill Road, it destroyed the home, which was the summer residence of Daniel St. Armand of San Antonio, Texas, McCausland said, adding that the home was valued at over $71,000.

According to McCausland, Deyon Kitchin, 19, and Dylan Brown, 23,  both of Madison, are being held on charges of arson, burglary, aggravated criminal mischief and theft at the Somerset County Jail. McCausland added that a 17-year-old girl from Madison was also arrested and faces the same charges as Kitchin and Brown. McCausland said, the girl, whose name was not made public, was released to the custody of her parents.

On Feb. 27, fire marshals and deputies from Somerset County  searched the home of Linda Greene on Main Street in Madison and recovered a number of the items taken from the house, including an oxygen tank, firecrackers, antique dishes and a backpack, McCausland said. Greene, who McCausland said is a friend of the Kitchin and Brown, was charged by deputies with possessing marijuana.
