A 2-year-old boy who nearly drowned in the Kennebec River in Augusta has been released from the hospital and it continuing to recover. Centralmaine.com reports  a criminal investigation is underway.

Five people arrested in Oxford county on drug charges. According to WGME they are all charged with unlawful trafficking of heroin as well as other charges.

Maine Gov. Paul LePage has released his informal documentation on drug arrests and they don't back up his claim that blacks and Hispanics from out of state account for "90-plus percent" of heroin trafficking arrests. An Associated Press analysis of the Republican governor's own documents show black and Hispanic defendants from out of state comprised no more than about one-third of the arrests for heroin and opioid-derived drugs in LePage's binder.

The Maine Department of Public Safety says crime dropped 7 percent in the state last year, for the fourth consecutive year. But law enforcement officials are concerned that four of the five categories that saw increases were crimes against people: rape, robbery, aggravated assaults and homicides.

Gas prices have fallen a bit in northern New England. GasBuddy shows that the average retail price went down 1.7 cents per gallon in Maine to $2.21 a gallon. The national average of $2.20 has dropped nearly a penny in the last week. It stands 8.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Donald Trump is accusing Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton of not having the "stamina" to be president. At Monday night's first presidential debate between Trump and Clinton, Trump said, Clinton "doesn't have the look." He said, "She doesn't have the stamina." Clinton fired back, saying that as secretary of state she traveled to 112 countries, negotiated peace deals, cease-fires and imprisoned dissidents. Clinton said once Trump can do that, "He can talk to me about stamina."

Residents of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are hoping that a temporary floodwall will hold as the rain-swollen Cedar River crests, threatening thousands of homes. City crews and residents have been stacking sandbags and building larger barriers for days in anticipation of high water, which followed days of heavy rain.

Authorities say a disgruntled lawyer wearing military-style apparel with old Nazi emblems had two weapons and more than 2,500 rounds of live ammunition when he randomly shot at drivers in a Houston neighborhood Monday, wounding nine people before he was shot and killed by police. Police still have not identified the man, but they've been searching the condo of Nathan DeSai, where police say they found vintage military items and other guns.

Fire crews in Northern California are making progress fighting a 2 square-mile blaze burning near The Geysers geothermal facility. Cal Fire says as of Monday night, the fire was 45 percent contained. The blaze forced the temporary evacuation of one of the 14 plants at the Calpine facility. And about 90 people in three dozen homes were under evacuation orders or advisories.

Two children who were the subject of an Amber Alert in Indiana have been found dead and their mother has been arrested on murder charges. Police in Elkhart say they believe that the children found dead Monday afternoon are seven-year-old Liliana Hernandez and six-year-old Rene Pasztor. They had been the subject of an Amber Alert earlier in the day, warning that their mother may have abducted them. They children's bodies were found in a car matching one described in the alert.
