Presidential candidate Donald Trump is canceling a Thursday appearance he had scheduled for Portland.  The Portland Press Herald reports the appearance is cancelled due to a campaign routing issue. They are working on a new date.

Gas prices are on the rise again in northern New England. GasBuddy shows that the average retail price went up in Maine to $2.23. The national average of $2.22..It stands 7.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Authorities in Maine are issuing a warning after skimming devices were found on ATM machines at banks in Wells, Sanford and Waterboro over the weekend. The devices are used to steal personal identification numbers and card data from bank customers.

A dangerous Category 4 hurricane is battering Haiti's southwestern peninsula, bringing life-threatening winds, rains and storm surge. Hurricane Matthew's heavy rains also fell on Jamaica and dangerous rainfall is a threat for the Dominican Republic, which adjoins Haiti. Matthew was last tracked with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph.

The one and only vice-presidential debate between Republican Mike Pence and Democrat Tim Kaine is set for Tuesday at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. The stakes will be lower than the three presidential debates, but will give each largely undefined candidate a chance to make a mark on a national audience.

Fierce gunbattles are still underway across Afghanistan's embattled northern city of Kunduz almost 30 hours after the Taliban launched an attack there. An Interior Ministry spokesman says Afghan security forces are "trying to secure the city," but that Taliban gunmen are hiding in residential homes, making progress slow and difficult.

U.S. and Philippine forces have opened joint combat exercises under some uncertainty Tuesday. Just days before, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said they would be the last such drills of his six-year presidency. Marine commanders from both sides said at the opening ceremony that the exercises are aimed at improving readiness by the two countries to respond to a range of crises while deepening their historic ties.

Kanye West is rescheduling two tour dates after his wife, Kim Kardashian West, was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. Concert promoter LiveNation says Kanye's Tuesday concert in Philadelphia has been bumped back to Dec. 13, and Thursday's show in the Detroit area has been rescheduled for Dec. 22. Armed robbers broke into an upscale apartment residence in Paris, robbing Kardashian of more than $10 million in jewels.
