Fairfield Police Department  had a report of an 'officer down' yesterday in Fairfield Center. Multiple agencies responded to the scene before it was determined that the report was a hoax.

Maine State Police have updated the information on the motorcycle crash on I95 the day of the Toy Run in Augusta that took two lives. They revised the identity of the motorcyclist that swerved into the passing lane to the younger of the two victims. (additional information from centralmaine.com)

Manchester has voted to allow the towns code enforcement officer to have expanded duties that focus on economic development. According to centralmaine.com  the town decided to offer this to him because they want to support good employees.

Maine police are investigating two possible attempted abductions in Knox County. Thomaston school officials say a middle school student was riding his bike in Thomaston when a van stopped Wednesday night and an older man asked him to get inside. The boy refused and told adults what happened. This incident comes after a middle school girl says three men in a white van tried to lure her into their vehicle. She also refused.

Maine's two senators are part of a push to increase funding for American agriculture promotion programs. Republican Sen. Susan Collins and independent Sen. Angus King say a bill they are helping to introduce would help American farmers get an edge in the world market. They say the bill aims to revitalize the U.S. Department of Agriculture's export promotion programs.

A probate judge is convening a hearing on a woman's request that her toddler daughter be declared dead more than five years after her disappearance evolved into the largest criminal investigation in Maine history. The mother of Ayla Reynolds is asking for a declaration so she can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the toddler's father. The hearing is set for Thursday in Portland.

A Brinnon, Washington man was sentenced to six months in prison and fined $25,000 for trafficking ivory from protected species. U.S. Attorney Annette Hayes says David L. Boone took part in an operation between 2006 and 2008 that smuggled narwhal tusks from Canada into the U.S. Narwhals are Arctic whales that are often called the "Unicorn of the Sea" because of their prominent tusk.

Officials say a plane carrying mail had to make an emergency landing in Maine, because its landing gear failed. The twin-engine Wiggins Airways plane carrying mail for the U.S. Postal Service made the belly landing at the Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle. No one was seriously hurt. WAGM-TV reports that pilot Eric Albright circled the airport to burn off fuel before landing at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Maria has regained its major hurricane status, rising to a Category 3 storm early Thursday. An update from the Miami-based center says maximum sustained winds have increased to near 115 mph. Maria's fierce core will continue to move away from Puerto Rico during the next several hours, and then pass offshore of the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic.

A delicate effort to reach a young girl buried in the rubble of her school stretched into a daylong vigil, much of it broadcast across Mexico as rescue workers still struggled in rain and darkness early Thursday trying to reach her. The sight of her wiggling fingers has become a symbol of the hope droving thousands of professionals and volunteers to work frantically at dozens of sites looking for survivors of the magnitude 7.1 quake that killed at least 245 people in central Mexico.

The United Nation's sexual abuse and exploitation scandal among peacekeepers is back in the spotlight with fresh calls for reform. In a year-long investigation, The Associated Press found that despite promising reforms for more than a decade, the U.N. still fails to meet many of its pledges to stop the abuse or help victims, some of whom have been lost to a sprawling bureaucracy.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says Iran is in "technical compliance" with the 2015 nuclear deal but it's failing to live up to the expectation that the deal would remove a "serious threat" to the region. Tillerson says President Donald Trump has decided whether to withdraw from the deal, but hasn't shared his decision with anyone "externally."
