Heavy, wet snow is once again blanketing the Northeast just days after the biggest storm of the season dumped up to 24 inches of snow on the region. Winter storm warnings are in effect into Monday from upstate New York to Maine, where blizzard conditions and 2 feet of snow are possible.   Here for cancellations and here for power outages.

Maine state police say officers shot and killed a man and woman after the pick-up truck the two were in rammed a state police cruiser.The Portland Press Herald reports that both 25-year-old Kadhar Bailey, of Gardiner, and 18-year-old Ambroshia Fagre, of Oakland, have died.Police spokesman Steve McCausland said police were called Friday afternoon looking for a vehicle involved with daytime burglaries.He said the shooting occurred after a truck they encountered along Arnold Road "intentionally" rammed a police cruiser.Bailey, who was driving, died and the woman was transferred to the hospital in critical condition. McCausland says police were placed on administrative leave with pay and weren't injured. The attorney general's office will investigate the use of deadly force by police officers, as required by law.

A group of educators and legislators say Maine must eliminate the achievement gap between disadvantaged and wealthy students. The commission says Maine test scores have plateaued in recent years and only 36 percent of fourth-graders are proficient in reading.

Maine Rep. Chellie Pingree is renewing her efforts to reduce food waste with federal legislation. Pingree, a Democrat, is an advocate for making food donation easier and cutting down on the amount of food that gets thrown out. She is a co-sponsor of The Food Donation Act of 2017, which was introduced on Feb. 7. The bill seeks to modernize food donation rules by expanding liability protections for food donors.  Pingree also plans to reintroduce a pair of other food waste bills in the coming weeks. One would address food waste using tools like tax credits, research and a public awareness campaign. The other would standardize date labeling on food by distinguishing between quality and safety date labels.

President Donald Trump's chief policy adviser says the White House is exploring all of its options after a federal appeals court handed the administration a legal setback on Trump's executive order on immigration. Stephen Miller tells NBC that the White House could pursue "additional executive actions" as well as judicial appeals. He says the goal is to pursue "every single possible action" to keep the country safe from terrorism.

President Donald Trump is praising Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers for the recent "enforcement surge" that officials say is targeting immigrants who are in the country illegally and have criminal records. Trump tweets that "the crackdown on illegal criminals is merely the keeping of my campaign promise. Gang members, drug dealers & others are being removed!"

Authorities in Northern California are warning that an emergency spillway in the country's tallest dam is in danger of failing and unleashing uncontrolled flood waters on towns below. At least 130,000 people near the 770-foot-tall Oroville Dam are being asked to evacuate. It's about 150 miles northeast of San Francisco.

Several homes have been destroyed by huge wildfires that have ripped across Australia's New South Wales state. Scorching temperatures and fierce winds fanned the flames across a wide swathe of the region Saturday and Sunday. More than 2,500 firefighters fought nearly 100 fires as temperatures climbed to 117 degrees Fahrenheit in parts of the state. Two firefighters were injured.

A human rights group is charging that Pakistan is forcing hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees back to their homeland, which is still beset by war and crushing poverty. Human Rights Watch also says that a $400 stipend the United Nations refugee agency gives to refugees who return to Afghanistan is tantamount to a bribe to convince reluctant Afghans to leave Pakistan.

Adele has walked away with five Grammys at this year's awards show, including album, record and song of the year. She beat Beyonce in the top three categories with her comeback album "25. But Adele used her speech to honor Beyonce and her groundbreaking "Lemonade" album, which was also nominated.
