The Portland Press Herald reports police arrested the South Portland High School student Thursday morning and charged him with terrorizing and carrying a concealed weapon. AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A round of votes shows Maine lawmakers will need more support to ensure funding for a minimum-security prison that Republican Gov. Paul LePage has pushed to close. The Senate voted 31-3 while the House voted 87-59 on Thursday on a bill to provide $5.5 million in another year of funding for the prison. LePage and House Republicans argue the prison is unnecessary.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A paper company says it plans to restart a machine whose shutdown left 120 workers with a job. The Bangor Daily News reports Verso. Corp. announced Thursday it will upgrade its pulp line and paper machine thanks in part to an eventual $4 million state grant. Demand fell last year for the coated paper produced by the machine.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The state says just a handful of uninsured Mainers benefited last year from a multimillion-dollar plan to combat the opioid crisis by expanding medication-assisted treatment to as many as 400 individuals. Critics say the state has been far too slow to roll out the program at a time when one Mainer a day is dying of a drug overdose. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services says it's now working on nine contracts that could serve up to 144 more uninsured individuals.

Lawmakers need two-thirds majority votes in both chambers to override LePage's likely veto. LePage and House Republicans argue the prison is unnecessary.  LePage has transferred about 60 inmates from Downeast Correctional Facility, which lawmaker funded through June. Washington County commissioners have gone to court to block LePage from further dismantling the prison. Democratic Attorney General Janet Mills has contested the governor's authority to shut down a prison and is not representing the LePage administration in the matter.

PARKLAND, Fla. (AP) — A timeline released by Florida authorities shows that the 19-year-old former student who confessed to a deadly high school shooting was only in the building for six minutes. The friends say they know they have many hard days to come, but will look to each other for solace.

UNDATED (AP) — The massacre at a Florida high school is again raising questions about whether the FBI missed a warning that might have headed off a mass killing. This time, the bureau was unable to track down the person who posted a YouTube comment saying "I'm going to be a professional school shooter." The person posted as "Nikolas Cruz," the same name as the 19-year-old man who authorities say killed 17 people on Wednesday. In several other attacks, the assailants were at one point on the FBI's radar.
