So, after weeks of cold, rainy weather, it looks like we've finally been blessed by a taste of Summer!  Summer in Maine means spending as much time as possible outside...  BBQs, camping, biking, hiking, and hitting the beaches!  Here's our list of the best beaches in, or a short drive from, Central Maine.

Bicentennial Park - Located just 6 miles down Rt 202 from Augusta, it will soon be open 7 days a week from 11 AM to 7 PM and features swimming, picnic areas, and hiking trails.  It is available only to Augusta residents and their guests.

Peacock Beach - On Rt 201 in Richmond, it is managed by the town of Richmond.  the park is open Memorial Day to Labor Day from dawn to dusk.  Adults are $3 per day and kids (under 12) are only $2.  And, you can get a season pass for only $30.  Get more details HERE

Lake St. George State Park - On Rt 3 in Liberty, it offers a beach, picnic areas, playground, and hiking trails

Barrett's Cove Public Beach - On Beaucaire Ave in Camden, it offers a beach and boat launch.

Birch Point Beach State Park - In Owls Head, it is open 7 AM to 7 PM daily.  It features a (mostly) sand beach with views of Penobscot Bay.

Popham Beach State Park - Located in Phippsburg, the beach / park is open seven days a week from 9 AM to sunset.  In addition to hanging out on the beach, you can swim, fish, kayak, or just watch the wildlife.

Old Orchard Beach - Only a little over an hour from Augusta / Waterville, OOB is something you need to do at least once per Summer.  And, even though you are going to end up paying for parking, food, drinks, and everything else, it is technically free to visit.
