A 17-year-old boy from Vassalboro was arrested on Monday afternoon for a series of burglaries.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, the teen, whose name was not released, was arrested, at gunpoint, inside one of the Messalonskee Lake cabins he is accused of burglarizing.

Trooper Travis Luce had been called to a residence on Dustin Drive after an alarm had been triggered.  Trooper Luce discovered that home, along with several others on Kerschner Road, had been broken into.  He found the teenager inside one of those camps and, with help from Corporal Diane Vance, apprehended him.

According to McCausland, the boy had recently run away from his home in Vassalboro and was living in one of the camps.

The boy was charged with burglarizing 8 homes and released into the custody of his mother.  Law enforcement is looking into whether items, in addition to tools and food, were stolen from the camps.

Additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues. The teen was released into the custody of his mother, McCausland said.
