A 15-year-old Skowhegan boy has been charged in connection with a series of car fires that occurred on June 12 in Skowhegan.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the boy, whose name has not been released, was arrested at his home  by Fire Marshals and Skowhegan Police June 13.

McCausland said the boy is charged with one count of arson and burglary and is expected in Skowhegan court later today.  He was taken to the Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston.

According to McCausland, the four fires were set around 4AM Monday to vehicles in the Family Circle housing complex and on West Front Street.  Two of the vehicles were destroyed and the two others were badly damaged, McCausland said.

Investigators said the fires were set by lighting  combustible materials inside the four vehicles.  During a search of the boy’s home, a set of keys to one of the vehicles were found under the boy’s pillow, according to McCausland.
