US Senator Angus King supports moving elections in the US to the weekend, when more people would be able to participate.

Currently, the US Constitution and federal law mandate that our elections for federal offices take place on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even numbered years. Most states also hold state and local elections on that same day as well.

For many years, opponents of Tuesday elections have wanted the date moved to a weekend, so people who may be working on a Tuesday can make it to the polls more easily. Here in Maine, post polls on election day are open from 7am to 8pm.

Senator King's bill would move elections from the first Tuesday in November to the first full weekend.
