Oscar Pistorius Tuesday (Oct. 21) has been sentenced to a five-years in the shooting death of his girlfriend. The South African double-amputee Olympic sprinter was sentenced after being found guilty of culpable homicide. In South Africa that means a person was killed unintentionally, but unlawfully.

Pistorius was also given a three-year sentence on a firearms charge, but that was suspended.

He insisted that he mistook girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp for an intruder when he shot her through a toilet door on Valentine's Day 2013.
