The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a New York man in Searsport Jan. 26 for selling Oxycodone. The arrest was part of an investigation regarding distributing thousands of Oxycodone pills in greater Bangor, Augusta and along the coast. According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, arrested was 32-year-old Jason Jones from the Bronx, New York. He was charged with aggravated trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Oxycodone), a class A crime in Maine.

For the past several months, MDEA agents have been involved in an investigation into the illegal distribution of prescription narcotics, namely Oxycodone throughout the midcoast, McCausland said. Agents identified a source of supply for Oxycodone who for over the past year was responsible for distributing thousands of Oxycodone pills in greater Bangor, Augusta and along the coast.

An undercover MDEA agent arranged to take delivery of 200 Oxycodone pills from Jones. who also goes by the street name “Smiley”, McCausland said. Jones traveled from Bangor to Searsport to meet the undercover agent at a Route 1 convenience store in Searsport and was arrested Monday night at about 8 pm.

State Police and Searsport Police arrested Jones without incident when he arrived at the store. Seized from Jones were  200 -- 30mg Oxycodone pills. Jones was going to sell the pills  for $29 each.  The street value for Oxycodone is $40 to $45 per pill. Jones was transported to the Waldo County Jail where bail was set at $50,000 cash.

This arrest and seizure continues to highlight the increasing trend of out of state drug dealers traveling to Maine. MDEA stands committed to working with all of our law enforcement partners in keeping all illicit drugs out of Maine communities and prosecuting those who distribute them, McCausland said.
