The 230 employees were told to pick up their last paycheck on Friday. The New England Confectionery Company (Necco) shocked Revere, Massachusetts by closing. WMTW reports that Round Hill Investments put out a statement saying:

Round Hill Investments was very excited to acquire Necco ’s historic brands and to be part of their national resurgence. After careful engagement and consideration however, the firm decided to sell the brands to another national confection manufacturer and today announced the closure of the operations in Revere, Massachusetts.

No word on who the new owner is, or if they will still make candy. This could be the end of the Necco water and Sweathearts, the candy hearts with the silly sayings....
