Maine State Police Continue Stepped up Enforcement

The holiday weekend is over but the state police presence on Maine roads isn't.
Maine State Police say stepped-up traffic enforcement that began with the Fourth of July holiday weekend will continue through the summer.

State police are utilizing additional troopers, unmarked cruisers and an airplane throughout July and August, the busiest and deadliest period on Maine roads. Last year, 43 people died in traffic crashes in Maine during July and August.

Col. Robert Williams, state police chief, says traffic enforcement will focus on enforcing seatbelt laws and targeting distracted, aggressive and impaired drivers.
