Maine Legislature Overrides LePage Veto of Cold Case Bill

A bill that gives families of homicide victims more time to file a lawsuit will become law over the objections of Gov. Paul LePage.

The Maine House and Senate on Monday voted nearly unanimously to override LePage's veto of the bill, which extends the statute of limitations for filing a wrongful death suit, from two years to six years. The change only applies to deaths from homicides.

The Republican governor in his veto letter chastised lawmakers for "pandering" to grieving families. He said the legislation won't help families because incarcerated murderers don't have financial assets
